How to get to Troncones

COME AND VISIT TRONCONES

Troncones is approximately a 40 minutes taxi or car ride from the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa International airport. At this time and to the best of our knowledge there is no regularly scheduled taxi service from airport to Troncones and prices vary. We suggest you ask the hotel where you will be staying for the best, most reliable and least expensive transportation from airport to Troncones and what the current rate is.

By Bus

There are no buses from the airport direct to Troncones. There are buses from Zihuatanejo to the main entrance road to Troncones off the main coastal highway Rt. 200.

First make sure you have changed your own currency for some pesos. (If you use dollars you will not get a good exchange rate. Best foreign currency to peso rate is at the banks) There is a currency exchange booth at the airport.

Be sure to get some small bills and coins for bus and taxi fares and tips. Suggest getting Some Mexican currency in denominations of 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 peso notes and coins. Also get larger bills for later on. But the small bills and change will come in handy and save you a lot of hassle.

Take an airport bus or Taxi to a bus pickup point near the park located across the street from the Electra Appliance Store in downtown Zihuatanejo, located at the intersection where the left turn signal is leading to Zona Hoteleria and Centro.

Ask each bus driver that stops if it is going to LaUnion.. Do not take any other. If the Bus destination reads only Pantla or Buena Vista, they will not take you as far as you want to go. Tell the driver you want to get off at Troncones. (IN SPANISH: POR FAVOR.. dejeme en Troncones)

When you get off at the Troncones intersection you will see a small store selling basic groceries and beverages. From the intersection for Troncones, there is van service to the entronque (junction) in downtown Troncones. There is van service from the entronque (junction where road ends in a T and splits off on a road north and south running parallel to the beach) There are a number of beaches that make up the Troncones Community, such as to Playa Manzanillo, Punta Troncones and La Majahua.

You are best off just telling the van or taxi driver which hotel or house your staying at. They know all the locations by name. If by this point you are tired of changing buses, there is a taxi stand. If a taxi is not there, wait. One will be along. A bit complicated in getting there, but it will prove worth the extra hassle. Frankly, unless you really can’t afford it, you are better off biting the bullet and going for the direct taxi from airport to Troncones, rather than wasting hours of your precious vacation time waiting for buses and hauling luggage from one to another.

If you are staying at a place in Troncones where you will have your own kitchen. We suggest a stopover at SORIANA Supermart to stock up on basics, there is very little available in the way of any serious food shopping in Troncones.

This will be difficult (if not nearly impossible) to do if you are using strictly bus transportation from airport to Troncones. However, if you are hiring a Taxi at the airport, you should first ask for a flat price to Troncones and after establishing the price ask him how much extra he would charge for a stop over at Commercio Mexicana to do some shopping. Make a deal based on the time you will be there in ½ hour increments.

NOTE: We advise that one-person stay in the taxi with your luggage and/or you get the drivers full name and the Taxicab number.
